Boston Beta :: Health and Biotech

Health is important; let’s talk innovation.

Home to some of the United States' leading research institutes and medical and research universities, Boston is recognized as a global epicenter of the health and biotech industry.

Boston Beta’s fourth event features startups focused on health and biotech. We’re introducing Boston's healthcare professionals, policymakers, academics, athletes, and authors to the area's leading health startups. Participating startups exhibit their innovations, connect with innovators, and compete for recognition and glory.

Boston Beta is a largely open-ended event; consider it a cross between a social mixer and an interactive poster session. Our open structure is reflected in the following schedule:

6:00: Doors Open
7:00: 30-second startup & sponsor pitches
8:00: Voting ends
8:30: People's Choice Winner announced

About Boston Beta

Boston Beta is New England's premier startup mixer, bringing together more than 400 founders, hackers, students, investors, designers, visionaries, enthusiasts, media professionals, and more.

Join us for a stimulating evening of conversation, talks, and startup demos, focused around greater Boston's early-stage startup and technology community. Details:

  • Live exhibits from sixteen local startups throughout the night
  • Healthy(!) finger food from Whole Foods
  • Hosted beer and wine selection; complimentary drink for all paying attendees
  • 30-second pitches from each demoing startup @ 7pm
  • People's Choice Contest: visit startups at tables across the room, vote on your favorites, and help select a winner
Venue: Microsoft NERD (1 Memorial Dr. Cambridge, MA 02142)

Boston Beta Demos

Cellanyx Cellanyx replaces static 2D images of dead cells with the richness of 4D live cancer cell analytics. Predicting the behavior of a patient's tumor from just a few cells, Cellanyx will save 140 thousand men from unnecessary surgery each year.
Covert Vector Covert Vector's technology enables real-time viewing and collaborating with 3D medical images on mobile devices such as tablets, smartphones and laptops. We have a proof of technology; come and talk to us for a quick demo.
CoachUp The original destination to find a great private sports coach! CoachUp helps kids - and adults - achieve their potential in sports through great one-on-one private coaching. Find your coach with us!
GeckoCap Asthma can be effectively managed through symptom awareness and adherence to medication. GeckoCap's vision is to shift families from panic to self-management by providing tools that increase awareness and adherence to improve disease management.
Segterra was founded by a small group of physicians, scientists, exercise physiologists, and nutritionists from MIT, Harvard, and Tufts University. We created the InsideTracker service to provide a web-based, personalized path to health, wellness and performance.
Kyruus  Kyruus uses big data to help organizations engage, manage, and optimize physician networks. Whether with patients, hospital administrators, commercial representatives, or fellow health care providers, interactions with physicians are central to the delivery and improvement of care. Our mission is to ensure that all stakeholders are matched to the best possible providers to drive optimal resource allocation across our health care system.
Over 120 million US adults remain overweight, despite most being "on a diet." Something is broken! LeanWagon's solution is simple: make healthy eating easy, fun, social, and - most importantly - sustainable. The trends to support us are in place: hyper-awareness of the problem, a market in search of a product, a rapid growth in number of wellness professionals who will recommend the service. Our goal in 2012 is to help people lose 1 million pounds.
MedStartr MedStartr is the first crowd funding platform designed specifically for Healthcare. We help healthcare companies acquire customers, drive awareness, partner up, and get funded. We launched 7/11 and in just our first week we have driven numerous partnerships, many customers, and thousands of dollars into our first wave of MedStartrs.
Neumitra (nu-MEE-tra) develops the mobile technologies to measure and manage health under stress. We deliver the data-driven tools to address the effects of stress on human health and happiness.

NUChip is a very small (0.25mm in diameter) nanoparticle based biosensor device for detection and monitoring of low levels of colorectal cancer biomarkers in biological fluids. In in-vitro diagnostics there's an immediate need of highly sensitive, highly specific, and low cost biosensor that can detect and monitor colorectal cancer at very early stages and potentially save many lives. NUChip biosensor prototype is three orders of magnitude more sensitive, can simultaneously detect multiple biomarker with high specificity and it is affordable.

OnDeckBiotech's mission is to streamline biopharma research and development, thereby reducing the risk that administrative management stands in the way of developing a promising compound. Our online community allows biopharma companies to identify and communicate confidentially with quality contract service providers while saving time, money, and operational risk. OnDeck enables vendors to raise awareness for their services and to differentiate on quality rather than price alone.

Pedia Solutions  Pedia Solutions is dedicated to developing innovative and safer products for the world's most valuable asset, babies. We've accomplished this goal with the development of our first product that we like to call, "The Pacifier Evolved."

Prescribable Apps creates simple yet robust custom web apps for doctors to prescribe their patients. Improving care through communication, engagement and education.
Sana AudioPulse Sana AudioPulse is a flexible, low-cost mobile solution for infant hearing screening. While the World Health Organization recommends global infant hearing screening, and has named hearing loss as the most preventable human sensory deficit, many children in developing countries are not screened. Five out of every thousand babies are born with some hearing loss, and if undetected in the first 6 months of life, permanent neurological damage is done. Our solution removes the need for expensive, proprietary devices to be operated on site by audiologists. Instead, we use a mobile app connected to gold-standard screening devices to allow for screening anytime, anywhere. Data is transmitted to an offsite audiologist for review, allowing a single audiologist to change thousands of lives.
Sextant Sextant is developing cancer therapies that trigger tumors to recruit cancer-killing immune responses. Our disruptive technologies and novel discoveries provide a new approach to recruit the immune system into the fight against cancer.
Thryve is a revolutionary mobile food coach that allows you to track your meals and how you're feeling. Thryve gives you insight to how your body responds to certain foods, helping you navigate a path to better health and happier days. By listening to your body instead of counting calories, you will develop a stronger connection to your diet, be more in tune with your goals, and find any foods that may be standing in your way.
