BOOKED - The Icarus Deception
Wednesday, April 30, 2014 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM (EDT)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
Booked: Cleveland's arts and culture reading exchange is a new idea from CPAC to get arts and culture professionals together and talking. CPAC is hosting this discussion group focused on works of nonfiction by thought leaders within, and outside of, the arts and culture field. One month it might focus on innovation, another month it might focus on advocacy, or marketing.
Our next book is The Icarus Deception by Seth Godin
Funded partially thorough a highly successful Kickstarter campaign (4,242 backers who contributed $287,342 to an original goal of $40,000), The Icarus Deception asks us to explore the Myth of Icarus from a new perspective -- not only the danger of flying too close to the sun or too low above water; but the unforeseen and seemingly more hazardous decision of choosing to navigate a safe middle ground instead. Godin explains, "This isn't a book about craft or paint or decoration. It's for anyone who cares a lot about why they went to work today and how they could do it better." The book is aimed at artists of all kinds, inviting them all to "fly close to the sun."
Please read the book along with us, and share your thoughts and impressions by joining us for a discussion on April 30 This session will be moderated by Susan dePasquale and the discussion will be shaped by those in the room. We are happy to partner with Loganberry Books for this Booked event from noon - 1:30 p.m. Please bring a brown bag lunch to the event if you like.
Seating is limited, so please register if you are certain you can attend. If you are unable to make it, let us know if you are reading the book so we can share the online discussion with you.
