Join us for the 86th meal in our United Noshes alphabetical journey through the cuisines of the United Nations members. It's also our last meal as New Yorkers — we'll be moving to Portland, Oregon the following week, and taking the project with us.
Jordanian food is perfect for a crowd! We'll enjoy mansaf, the national dish of lamb atop rice and flatbread and covered in a creamy, tangy sauce. There will be plenty of meze to start, and everyone, vegetarians included, ought to leave stuffed. We'll provide scented tea and non-alcoholic drinks; if you like, BYOB. Note that it's during Ramadan so we'll likely incorporate some appropriate foods, but we won't be waiting until sundown to eat.
As always we're raising money for the World Food Program USA, providing emergency food, food security and nutrition around the world including in Jordan. We'll donate every dollar of your ticket, beyond the cost of the food, straight to supporting this vital work, and in fact it'll be doubled by Google. We're expecting this event to tip our total fundraising past the $20,000 mark! (Note that this ticket is not tax-deductible due to how we have to structure it to get the donation doubled.)
Our friends at Hostelling International New York have generously opened their kitchen and garden to us. If you're interested to volunteer as a cook, server, DJ, etc., we are eager for help and can offer you free admission! Please let us know at email@example.com. Also, if you or a friend is from or familiar with Jordan, please get in touch as we'd love help planning.
See you on the Upper West Side on July 19!
When & Where
United Noshes is a series of 194 dinner parties, one for each member of the United Nations, in alphabetical order. We started in July 2011 in Brooklyn, squeezing friends and strangers alike into a 500-square-foot apartment, and in August 2014 moved to Portland, Oregon. We strive to create as authentic a meal as our capacity and resources afford, carefully researching recipes and investing the necessary time in traditional preparation methods.
We feel so lucky to be able to eat for enjoyment and share food with our friends through our United Noshes dinners. We recognize that so many people around the world struggle to meet their daily needs, so every meal is a fundraiser for charity fighting hunger and improving lives around the world.
