Bold Conversation with Barbara Meyer Thursday May 17th at NOON, EST
Thursday, May 17, 2012 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM (EDT)
When Bold Givers contribute a large portion of their wealth to create a family foundation, it is exceptional. When they fund grassroots organizing and include community voices on their boards, it is truly exceptional. But Barbara Meyer did not stop there. Deeply moved by the wisdom of community voices on her family foundation board and in southern rural communities, she envisioned the board transferring its assets to a new fund created and governed by the foundation’s grantees.
Join us to hear how Barbara’s experience as an organizer for the United Farm Workers inspired her to invest her UPS inheritance in the Bert and Mary Meyer Foundation she founded in 1984; and twenty five years later to transfer those assets and the power they represented to Southern Partners Fund.
Bold Conversations is a monthly phone discussion hosted by Anne Ellinger, co-founder of Bolder Giving (www.boldergiving.org). Each month you can join a conversation with an extraordinary giver who will share strategies, challenges, and excitement about their giving.
The format of each Bold Conversation is a 60 min. free teleconference call. Anne and the featured guest talk, pausing frequently for questions and comments from listeners. We aim for an informal, interactive, and frank discussion where listeners apply lessons to their own giving. You can also listen to archived conversations and join online chats with Bold Givers hosted by the Chronicle of Philanthropy.

Give OUT Day
About Give OUT Day: Give OUT Day is a new national initiative that aims to mobilize the entire LGBTQ & ally community on a single day across the country to give in support of LGBTQ nonprofits. In its 2013 inaugural year, Give OUT Day raised $602,920, inspiring 5,474 donors who made 6,592 donations. It galvanized organizations from all 50 states, D.C., and Puerto Rico, creating a tidal wave of community spirit rippling through urban communities as well as the remote hinterlands of LGBT isolation. It broke new ground amongst allies who came forward to support the LGBTQ community, many for the first time.
