Bodegas Carrau Tasting and Meet the Winemaker

We invite you to join us for a tasting of the wines of Bodegas Carrau, a family with over 10 generations of winemaking from their origins of Catalonia, Spain to the present day. You will get a chance to meet with Francisco Carrau, winemaker and taste his wines while he tells you the stories of his family and of the winery and the wines.
Sparkling Reception wine: Sust Brut Nature. Cerro Chapeu, South America. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes from Cerro Chapeu region. Approximately 20 days at 15 degrees Celsius in a stainless steel tank. Complex aromas of citrus and apricot dry fruit with almonds and spicy notes. Intense, dry and with a good length of flavors in the palate.
Sauv Blanc Sur Lie. Cerro Chapeu region, Uruguay.
White with green tinges, intense on the nose, with fruit and slightly herbal bouquet. Aroma notes of passion fruit and grapefruit are very typical in this wine and give a pleasant aroma complexity. Dry and lively on the palate. Very enjoyable to drink cold. Ideal to serve with spicy seafood or salads, as well as with white meats with sweet –sour sauces. You don’t lose the wine even with more hot or spicy foods.
Chardonnay De Reserva. Chardonnay 100% from Las Violetas region.
Pale yellow color with a viscous aspect in the glass. Intense delicate fruit aromas of melon and mango with a very delicate touch of toasted almonds and honey. Complex, dry and lively acid that gives freshness and length on the palate.
Tannat De Reserva. 100% from Las Violetas region, Uruguay.
Red ruby color with deep intensity. Classic cedar and red fruits in the nose. The quest for harmony and balance with oak shows Tannat characters. Plums are evident on the palate, roundness and smooth tannins contributes for an excellent wine. It is an ideal wine to serve with red meat, aged cheeses and grilled foods. It could aged well for 5 years in good cellar condition.
Ysern. Blend of regions: 75% from Cerro Chapeu and 25% from Las Violetas regions, Uruguay.
This Tannat has an intense deep dark red color. Red and black fruits are clearly present in the first nose. After a while, a complex aroma of dry plums and spicy notes appear in harmony with oak. Excellent mouth feels, with mature tannins and a lively acidity that gives a long an intense palate, ideal to serve with all kind of grilled foods. Could be kept for many years.
AMAT. Single vineyard at Cerro Chapeu region, Uruguay.
Deep intense colour. Long legs on the side of the glass. Rich aromas of ripe red fruits, plums and liquorice. The oak gives complex flavours of fresh tobacco. It has firm structure, with soft tannins, giving it elegance and length on the palate. It has chewy body and will develop well with time. Ideal with any kind of grilled meat, charcuterie and strong cheeses, also with casseroles and other spicy dishes.
