Blues, Beer & BBQ Featuring Shemekia Copeland
Saturday, June 9, 2012 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM (EDT)
One of the Festival’s most sought-after tickets, four years running! This year, by popular demand of BBQ lovers, the culinary options are expanded. Blues, Beer & BBQ combines the hottest cuisine along with “sizzling” blues singer Shemekia Copeland (The Boston Globe). Plus, enjoy a cooking show by the fiery “Biker Billy” and rub elbows with former White House Chef Walter Scheib who designed the entire event.
Guests have the option of pre-purchasing a combo ticket that includes a culinary ticket featuring the ultimate BBQ platter, two ice-cold beers (or wine) and premium seating for the evening’s headline performer--spine-tingling blues singer Shemekia Copeland.
General admission guests may choose from a wide variety of outstanding food vendors. Festival bars will also be available and stocked with an assortment of ice-cold beer and fine wines, along with water and other non-alcoholic choices.
Step right up and admire the gleaming 2012 Harley-Davidson Dyna Street Bob FXDB donated by Battlefield Harley-Davidson and valued at $12,999. Later tonight one lucky Festival fan’s name will be drawn as the winner in the Harley raffle. It’s your last chance to try your luck by purchasing raffle tickets at $10 each.
At 6:30, prepare for a freewheeling cooking demo featuring the one and only “Biker Billy.” Host of a syndicated television cooking show and author of four cookbooks, Biker Billy (Bill Hufnagle) is a vegetarian Harley rider who loves all things hot and spicy. With appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Good Morning America, National Public Radio and motorcycle events nationwide, Biker Billy dishes up a show sure to put some sizzle into your evening.
After enjoying the pre-show festivities, the evening’s star attraction—Shemekia Copeland—takes to the stage at 8 pm. A young performer, she is already a force to be reckoned with in the blues. While still in her 20s, she opened for the Rolling Stones, headlined at the Chicago Blues Festival and numerous festivals around the world, scored critics choice awards on both sides of the Atlantic (The New York Times and The Times of London), was nominated for a Grammy and shared the stage with such luminaries as Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Taj Mahal and John Mayer. Shemekia Copeland is considered the heir to the rich tradition of soul-drenched divas like Ruth Brown, Etta James and Koko Taylor; Copeland’s shot at the eventual title of Queen of the Blues is pretty clear. Her passion for singing, matched with her huge, blast-furnace voice, gives her music a timeless power and a heart-pounding urgency.
