Event Details

The Third Annual Bluegrass, Barbecue & Brew Festival
at Patrick Henry's Red Hill

...embracing the flavors and sounds of
Southern Virginia at the home of Virginia's
Passionate Patriot & Fiery Fiddler!

This festival combines a LOVE of history with a LOVE of music, barbecue and Virginia craft beer! The Bluegrass, Barbecue & Brew Festival brings together the lifestyle of yester year with modern leisurely activities. Our intention is for the people to fall in love with Southern Virginia and all of the history, culture, food, beer and music it has to offer.

Our Third Annual Bluegrass, Barbecue & Brew Festival will feature three bluegrass bands: Balsam Range from Haywood County, North Carolina, the Darrell Webb Band from Knoxville, Tennessee, and the third band is Robbie Wells from Lynchburg, Virginia.

We will have delicious local barbecue and we will also have arts and craft vendors. There will be docents on the grounds to interpret the plantation buildings during the festival. The three local breweries that will be featured during the festival are Devil's Backbone Brewing Company of Nelson County, Starr Hill Brewing Company of Charlottesville, and Legend Brewing Company of Richmond. We are also having a local cidery the Bold Rock Cidery of Nelson County!

Patrick Henry's Red Hill

Red Hill is Patrick Henry's last home and burial place. Visitors can view an introductory fifteen-minute video on Patrick Henry's career and his life at Red Hill before visiting the Red Hill Museum.

There follows a tour of Red Hill's seven historic buildings, the Patrick Henry grave site, and the grounds overlooking the Staunton River Valley, which appears much as it did in Henry's time.

Some of Red Hill's special programs include an annual 4th of July celebration which features Revolutionary War-era re-enactors and concludes with an evening fireworks display, and a Living History Day for local school children. Group tours (10 or more persons) of Red Hill are available by appointment.
