Bleeding Gray and Blue Walking Tour
Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 11:00 AM (EDT)
Join us as we walk the Historic Marietta Square with noted historian Brad Quinlin. These fascinating tours will highlight the places and events around the square found in our upcoming exhibit, Bleeding Gray and Blue: Marietta’s Civil War Hospitals.
Beginning in September of 1863, soldiers wounded in the battles of Chickamauga were shipped down the railroad to Marietta hospitals. Until recently, little was known about where these Confederate hospitals were located and who ran them. Now, thanks to extensive research by Brad, thousands of documents and details have been unearthed and studied. The results of this work will be highlighted in our exhibit and walking tours!
Also featured will be information on how these hospitals were again used by the Union Army in 1864 as the battle of Kennesaw Mountain raged on. You won't find this information anywhere else! Hour long tours will be held at 11 am and 2 pm. Additional times may be added as needed. Tours will begin and meet at the City of Marietta's 150th Tent during the Marietta Streetfest. **TICKETS SOLD THE DAY OF THE EVENT WILL BE $20 EACH**
