Reducing and Managing Project Risks for Sustainable Products from Sustainably Managed Forests
Metropolitan Hotel, Vancouver, BC
Thursday, November 7, 2013
8:30 am – 3:15 pm (Reception to follow)
The Forest Products Association of Canada invites you to participate in a workshop on strategies and tools to reduce and manage the risk of projects based on woody biomass feedstocks. This workshop will be held at the Metropolitan in Vancouver, BC on Thursday, November 7, 2013.
Canada is widely recognized for its leadership in sustainable forest management. The Canadian forest products industry has worked hard to gain that recognition. Now, it is working equally hard to maximize the value from the wood fibre, via new bioproducts. The opportunity to produce much more diverse and higher value products is tremendous. Countless consumer and industrial products can be made with inputs derived from wood fibre. Think plastics, rubber, paints, textiles, cosmetics, and the myriad of products in which these materials are used. The forest companies can be important partners in development of sustainable products and the value chains that support them.
Forest products companies are looking at adopting new technology and processes at their existing facilities. This approach leverages existing processes but “bolting on” these new processes could carry certain risks to the existing primary production. The companies, and their partners, need to mitigate these and other, more traditional sources of risk, as much as possible.
This workshop will examine strategies and tools that can be used to reduce and manage risks associated with such partnership projects. You will hear from a number of experts such as:
- Larry Schwartz, IntellectualAssets Inc - Using Intellectual Property Assessments to Address Market Risk
- Phil Metz, Singing Dog LLC - Sustainability Driven Innovation in the Forest Industry
- John May, Stern Bros. - Risk Mitigation Strategies
- Mike Walkinshaw, Fronterra Ventures - Risk Concerns of a Venture Capitalist Investors,
- Dave Peterson, ADM, Ministry of Forests-Role of Govenment in Reducing Project Risk
- Ken Shields, Conifex - Corporate Strategies to Manage Risk in Project Development
- And more!
The workshop will be 8:30 am – 3:15 pm. A host reception will follow from 3:15 pm–4:45 pm.
Attending this workshop will broaden your knowledge of risk mitigation, open you to best practices, and widen your network of professional contacts.
