Biogeography: Exploration of Long Island's Bio-Diversity


Biogeography is a week-long outdoor program, where students will be challenged to explore Long Island's bio-diversity through critical thinking and hands-on studies.  Watershed areas including freshwater river, estuary, salt marsh, benthic zone, and forest will be examined using scientific testing and sampling equipment:

  • Dichotomous keys
  • GPS, maps, and field gudes reading
  • Formation of Long Island- a geological perspective
  • North Shore and intertidal studies
  • Microclimate and organism's niche in the environment
  • Canoe trip down the Peconic River

Participants must be entering grades 10, 11, or 12.

Participants must be 15 years or older at time of program.

Dates: July 28 - August 1, 2014, 9 am - 4 pm
