You’re invited to bicycle
from Manhattan to Tarrytown
along the East Coast Greenway and
the South County Trailway, Westchester
Sunday, March 28, 2010 - 2 start places, times:
9:00 AM at Bike & Roll,* Pier 84, on Hudson River Greenway
557 12th Ave. @ 43rd Street, Manhattan, across from Circle Line
* a full service bicycle rental facility. www.bikeandroll.com
and 10:45 AM at H.F. Redmond Memorial Park, Cook Ave., Yonkers
Please join us for a 30-mile one-way guided bicycle ride from mid-Manhattan on the Hudson to the Tarrytown train station. The ride will be at a very easy pace, 10-12 mph.
The ride will explore existing portions of the East Coast Greenway and Westchester trailways. After following the Greenway’s on-road route through historic neighborhoods in northern Manhattan and the Bronx, we will ride primarily on the South County Trailway (on right-of-way lands of the “Old Put”), which but for two gaps, is paved all the way to Tarrytown. We expect to reach Tarrytown around 12:30 pm, where we will stop at one of the eateries there.
Riders can return by cycling back to the start location with a leader or home on their own, or taking the Metro-North train (Hudson Line) back. Bikes are permitted on the train for those with a MTA Bike Permit, www.mta.info/bike (only $5 and good for life), which can be purchased on the train. Wear a helmet, and bring water and snacks. Rain or shine.
Leaders include NY-ECG Committee member Anthony Savarese, ECGA staffer Michael Oliva, and Westchester Cycle Club leaders. For questions: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please pre-register at www.ecgridemarch28.eventbrite.com. There is no charge but a suggested donation of $10 (or more) payable to the ECGA, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, will be collected at the start.
