Presentations: The Design Accelerator’s first Graduates Revealed
The Design Accelerator and its seed-stage investment fund are ground-breaking for-profit entities created by Art Center College of Design in partnership with Caltech. The accelerator will be presented by its co-founders Mark Breitenberg and Erik Hovanec and followed by three individual presentations from graduating companies.
1. Anomaly Systems, Inc. Anomaly offers a Cloud-based platform of massively concurrent networks of agents that acquire and integrate data from thousands of disparate noisy data sources to detect critical patterns, in real time, so that enterprises can capitalize on opportunities and reduce threats. The intellectual property was acquired from the California Institute of Technology, and was initially developed to detect threats to society such as harmful radiation and earthquakes.
Presenter: Mani Chandy, PhD MIT. Professor Emeritus, California Institute of Technology, Computational and Mathematical Sciences. Till February 1, he was the Simon Ramo Professor of Caltech.
2. Eyevoice, Inc. See the voices around you and explore cities of the world.
Presenters: Co-Founders Youmna Chamcham, Eddy Bitar and Omar Omran.
3. Metamason, Inc. One of the most universally disliked therapies in medicine, CPAP masks for obstructive sleep apnea patients, offers a $2 billion dollar market with a 25% growth rate. Metamason, capitalizing on this opportunity, is using 3D printing to create patient specific solutions with our proprietary Scan·Fit·Print platform. We utilize 3D scanning, algorithmic design, and our proprietary 3D printing process for silicone (Investment Molding) to create custom, ergonomic masks, optimized for the individual.
Presenter: CEO & Founder Leslie Oliver Karpas
4pm - 5pm
Panel 2: Arts + Science + Tech = Pasadena Means Business
Things are changing. Modern designers are not just “making things pretty” anymore but using new technologies and advances in science like 3D scanning, parametric computer modeling, and 3D printing to create complex innovations. At the same time, technology and science entrepreneurs have moved out of the labs and using design and branding power to start revolutionary companies like SpaceX and Virgin Galactic. How can Pasadena better leverage its unique arts and science institutions to create more successful companies and a thriving innovation eco-system? What’s next as art meets science meets tech meets business?
Alex Maleki, Head of Business Development, Idealab
