Show off your two-wheeler and your artistic flair all at once! Adorn your bike with streamers, ribbons, doilies and doo-dads. Apply feathers and ferns to add camouflage. Fashion and engineer scraps of cardboard to transform your steed into some sort of ornate unicorn or other mystical creature. And, whip up a costume that matches. Get ready for the Festival of Decorated Bikes: A Rolling Art Parade!
On Saturday, September 29, BicycleSPACE will lead a bedazzled convoy of riders from Figment at Yards Park, an interactive and participatory art event, to the SW ArtsFest based at 4th Street SW. With so many ways to enjoy and celebrate art on this day, we want to show people how to get to and from the two locations by bike!
You will join a large group that will feature some high-profile guests including Teddy, the mascot who never wins the Presidential Races at Nationals Stadium. Enjoy a raucous and fun tour from East to West and experience art on the move.
To be appropriately outfitted, you might like to get an early start and decorate your bike at home beforehand. Or, on the night prior to the event, starting at 7:30pm, you will be able to decorate your bike at BicycleSPACE. We will have some supplies on hand supplied by Scrap DC-- a great organization dedicated to creative reuse-- for you to unleash all your crafty potential.
Alternatively, arrive at Figment early for decorating on the day of the event. Limited crafts supplies will be available.
There will be bike parking areas available at each location. Do bring a lock if you will leave your bike at any point.
If you plan to join us for this fun event, kindly register so we may know how many to expect and please consider checking in at our facebook invite so you can share with friends.
