Haas Alumni Network Silicon Valley Chapter presents … Volunteer Opportunities for March Beyond Self Month
March is “Beyond Self with the Haas Alumni Network” month. The Silicon Valley Chapter invites you to join us in fulfilling the defining principles of the Haas School of Business by volunteering with Resource Area for Teaching (RAFT) during the month of March.
RAFT is a non-profit organization founded in 1994 whose mission is to help educators transform a child's learning process through hands-on educational activities that ignite interest, nurture natural curiosity, and help maintain a lifelong love of learning. RAFT helps close the achievement gap and level the playing field by giving every child an equal opportunity to understand concepts through hands-on education. Over 50,000 hands-on math, science, and art Activity Kits are assembled every year with the assistance of volunteers whose efforts help keep the cost of the kits down. To further provide kits at a low cost, RAFT has developed an innovative supply chain process that converts commonly found or discarded materials from the business community into Activity Kits, thereby keeping these materials out of landfills.
By volunteering at RAFT, you can achieve multiple Haas defining principles simultaneously!
• Question the status quo: Help produce Activity Kits that transform the learning process and close the achievement gap.
• Students always: Help children develop a lifelong love of learning by offering a way to deliver hands-on learning.
• Beyond yourself: Help keep the cost of Activity Kits down, thus offering more educators and more children the opportunity to access these materials.
Volunteers will sort donations, assemble Activity Kits, and even help out on the sales floor where teachers and other educators shop.
