Beyond Centers and Circle Time is an academic, play-based curriculum model focused on the following aspects of the preschool classroom and the way in which they support children’s readiness for school:
- Planning, scaffolding, and assessing play experiences
- Arranging the classroom environment and organizing the daily routine to promote independence and self-control
- Facilitating play experiences which will foster literacy and math development
- Using construction play and dramatic play experiences to teach academic skills
This training is intended for teachers of young children and professionals of early care and education programs. It is designed to provide an understanding of typical child development as a basis for observing atypical development, and methods of implementing developmental play strategies. All participants will learn the importance of structuring the play environment for age-appropriate milestones and understanding the meaning of children’s play products. Emphasis will be placed on applying theories and research to the play of young children.
