Who should attend this event? New reporters and journalism graduates; veteran reporters who want to hone their skills reporting on rape and sexual violence; editors seeking to improve style guides around rape and sexual violence; activists who want to contribute to reporters understanding of the issues.

Claudia Garcia-Rojas is the editor of the Taskforce Media Toolkit and The OpEd Project Media Fellow. She is a writer and commentator, providing expert opinion on issues of gender, media, and culture. In 2008, Claudia was chosen as Amnesty International's "Stop the Violence Against Women" campaign coordinator for the Midwest. She continues to work as an anti-gender-based violence speaker, and as a senior trainer and consultant for the Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women's Network.

In 2011, the Chicago Taskforce on Violence Against Women and Girls convened to discuss how the Taskforce could continue to raise the issue of violence against girls in the public discourse. The Taskforce decided that producing a Media Toolkit to disseminate to members of the press was not only necessary for helping address the ever-deepening stigma around rape and sexual violence, but a critical and timely resource to address the pervasiveness of rape culture in society. This Toolkit provides concrete facts about the issue of violence against girls and young women; suggestions about issues to be covered regarding violence against girls, including the Taskforce's recommendations of how to end violence; and information about key organizations.

This event will present the toolkit along with data for New York based journalists.
