Benchmarking 201: Using EPA’s Energy Star Portfolio Manager Tool

The Chicago Energy Benchmarking Ordinance raises awareness of energy performance through information and transparency, with the goal of unlocking energy and cost savings opportunities for businesses and residents. To comply, owners will gather building and energy data, enter it into EnergyStar Portfolio Manager, have the data verified, and share it with the City.
This ordinance designates the U.S. EPA's EnergyStar Portfolio Manager tool as the mechanism for report this information. Portfolio Manager is a no-cost, interactive, energy management platform that enables one to track and assess energy and water consumption across a single or an entire portfolio of properties in a secure, online environment.
This two-hour class will provide detailed instruction on how to create a Portfolio Manager account, acquire required benchmarking information, and use the Portfolio Manager tool to comply with the Chicago Energy Benchmarking ordinance. In addition, both local utilities, ComEd and Peoples Gas, will present the data access portal building owners can use to acquire their utility energy use data. Information on existing building incentive/rebate programs currently available will also be highlighted.
This class is designed for indviduals who are responsible for gathering building data, entering it into Portfolio Manager, and electronically submitting the results to the City. This may include building office staff, property managers, building operators or engineers, energy consultants or contractors.

This event has been produced by the City of Chicago, C40, U.S. Green Building Council – Illinois (USGBC IL); the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA); and the American Institute of Architects – Chicago Chapter (AIA Chicago); and the Illinois Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Engineers (ASHRAE IL). These organizations are also offering additional free in-person and web-based training on the Chicago Energy Benchmarking ordinance.
