being Here…/this time is the manifestation of a three-year project examining the intersections of mental illness, addiction, and systemic poverty. Spurred by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and New Music USA funding, this project teams with composer Everett Saunders in the installation of a 3-D audio sound score that shapes the way audiences will experience this live performance, referencing the environment, home, room, and moment where the journey unfolds.
The project, originally named being Here… seeks to contribute to healing research and cultural affirmation through an embodied artistic practice. It triggers an array of emotional arcs that peer into the mind’s journey towards recovery and remind us of our own triumphant arcs of healing and empathy. This residency reworking features Pittsburgh-favorite Jasmine Hearn, who was in the original cast that premiered at Danspace Project in New York City.
