Master of Arts in Teaching in Science Education
Earn a Master's Degree in Science Education plus PA Teacher Certification
in 18 months by taking classes online and meeting face-to-face
one Saturday per month.
The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Science Education is an 18-month program leading to both a master‘s degree as well as teacher certification via the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE). *Learn more about the new MAT program here: http://www.ship.edu/scied/
The program is designed for professionals and recent college graduates who already hold a degree in a scientific discipline and who wish to teach science in either a middle school or high school. Students will complete a sequence of six courses to teach research-based principles of safe and effective science instruction followed by a 12-week student teaching practicum. Students will also complete and present a research project and comprehensive teaching portfolio.

This brief, casual info session is designed to give an overview of the new MAT program, admissions requirements, and the application process (*we waive the standard $45 application fee if you attend an info session!) Then you will be free to browse our literature, discuss any questions or concerns with key program faculty and staff, receive a free assessment of any unofficial transcripts you bring, and/or enjoy some coffee and sandwiches on us. This will not be a high-pressure sales pitch- just useful information in a convenient format.
