Building Enclosure Council - Cleveland Presents:

High Performance Roofing Considerations over Critical Environments
Panel Discussion of an Actual Case Study

Multi-Facility Building Owner’s face substantial chal- lenges and risks in protecting (maintaining) large number of facility assets. Since roofs are often the first defense for keeping the outside environment out, proper roof per- formance is critical to ongoing operations. This concern
is magnified further when the facility houses a “mission critical” operation with zero tolerance to any outside con- tamination. Our topic will focus on such a case involving a clean room environment in a medical laboratory.

BEC-Cleveland has assembled a panel of experts consisting of primary stake holders involved in resolving the issues in this challenging roofing project over a highly sensitive operation in NE Ohio. The panelists shall exam- ine Owner’s perspective as it relates to the initial stages of roof failure; management and coordination of the project team, building managers and tenants. Moderator will
lead the panel members to address the development of a series of operational protocols established by the team in- cluding the owner, the lead consultant, the environmental

sub and the roofing material manufacturer. Following that strict protocol, the team members will share with the audi- ence the detailed processes followed by the entire team in successfully overcoming challenges of keeping the facility operating during the course of the remediation. Discussion will also touch on the special procedures developed begin- ning with the initial forensic discovery to emergency roof leak measures, to critical design and work sequencing to strict quality control procedures all the way to project war- ranty and close out.

Learning objectives:

  • Participants will be able to better understand the important role roofing systems can play on critical facilities
  • Participants will be better equipped to make life-cycle based decisions about roofing systems
  • Participants will be able to define and quantify roofing sys- tem components that greatly impact performance
  • Participants will be able to identify existing building condi- tions that greatly impact roofing system decisions and costs
