To serve as the focal point for the Art and Culture in the Bayview Hunters Point community by providing accessible and diverse, high-quality arts education, cultural programs and community events in a safe environment.
To pursue high standards of excellence in arts instruction and diverse programming, to encourage youth to participate in the arts, to foster a sense of community and cultivate relationships that are respectful, inspirational and inclusive.
The Bayview Opera House, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) formed in 1989 to operate the Bayview Opera House Ruth Williams Memorial Theatre.
The South San Francisco Opera House, as it was originally called, opened on October 4, 1888 by Masonic Lodge #212, to house art performances and community gatherings. The Bayview Opera House (BVOH) is one of four city-owned cultural centers operated by a nonprofit organization providing cultural and arts programming to under-served communities in San Francisco.
The BVOH is available for rent for both public and private events, with a focus on providing affordable space to artists and arts organizations producing cultural events.
The Bayview Opera House Ruth Williams Memorial Theatre is 126 years old and is known for being the city’s first and oldest opera house.
We are San Francisco's historic landmark building No. 8 and as of March 21, 2011 we were inducted into the National Register of Historic Places as a National Landmark!
