Bayou City Outdoors - Hiking Memorial Park Trails (NEW)
October 13, 2013 - 8:00 am – 9:45 am
Meet at 8:00am and leave at 8:15am
We meet in the Rugby Parking lot
N Picnic Ln
Houston, TX 77007
Memorial Park, known as the Central Park of H-town, is an amazing 1466 acre park (one of the largest in the county) right inside the loop! Trails are a mix of hard packed dirt, sand, trees and tree roots. Even with the loss of trees from the drought, it is still green and wooded.
Join us for an hour and a half quick-paced hike through some of the lesser-known (and a little more adventuresome) trails our park has to offer. Wear tennis shoes or hiking boots, it’s easy to bang a toe on a tree root. And, there’s some elevation in the park that you wouldn’t expect from just driving by.
Remember to bring water; there are no water fountains along the trails. As long as it is cool out, this is a dog friendly event that your canines can enjoy with us.
They do need to be on leash and don’t forget your doggy bags.
After the hike, a group is going to the Black Walnut Café @ 5512 Memorial Drive. For breakfast and coffee.
Here’s what our friends at GHORBA.org have to say: “Memorial Park offers a convenient escape from the concrete jungle of Houston with seven miles of dirt trails. Trails are marked and named by their “Color” of trail markers.”
Please, check the meeting location map on the Bayou City Outdoors site calendar event details. Once we are in the trails it will be hard for any late arrivals to catch up. Meeting location description: We meet in the Rugby Parking lot. It is on the south side of Memorial drive, on North Picnic Loop Lane (we don’t know why it is called north…it is on the south side) a little more towards the west side of Picnic Loop lane is a smaller parking lot with a tree growing in it. This is the Rugby Parking Lot. Map link: https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=29.765905,-95.445297&spn=0.004933,0.003954&t=h&z=18
When & Where
Bayou City Outdoors
Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
Typically most BCO events are for adults. But, we do love kids. If you believe your child is capable of keeping up with the group, no problem. AND if this is a bike ride they MUST wear a helmet. Questions? Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
We add parking details to the Event descriptions.
What can/can't I bring to the event?
If the temperature is above 80 or it very clearly says "No Dogs" then please don't bring your dog. We LOVE dogs and only make this rule if we feel there could be a safety concern (for the dogs of course:).
BIKE: If it is a bike ride: Bring a helmet or borrow one from us. Helmets are the single most important piece of gear you can have on a bike ride. Anyway, any time you are wearing a helmet you must be having fun!
Bring water. Frequently our events are in the woods or out of the way. Water is important.
HIKE: If it is a hiking event wear comfortable shoes. Athletic shoes, hiking boots, running shoes, just be sure your feet will be happy.
SOCIAL: If it is a social event? Wear whatever YOU feel comfortable in. We are an eclectic mix of people with all types of interests and jobs. People will come straight from work in a suit or jeans, straight from running or working out, and some of us even come cleaned up straight from the shower! (and everything in between)
Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?
Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
Can I update my registration information?
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Printed ticket or download the EventBright app and bring it on your phone.
What is the refund policy?
Refunds up until 48 hours before. Or, better yet, get some goodwill by sharing your ticket with a friend. They will love you even more after all the fun they had at the BCO event!
The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?
Yes - see love & friendship above!
