Bay Trail Bike Brunch
Join Sean Co of the Bay Trail Project Board of Directors and Metropolitan Transportation Commission for a scenic, leisurely family bike along the Bay Trail from Emeryville through Eastshore State Park, Point Isabel Regional Shoreline and four City of Richmond parks in Marina Bay to a tasty pancake & eggs breakfast served from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the scenic deck of historic SS Red Oak Victory http://www.ssredoakvictory.com/index.htm one of the 747 ships built in Richmond during WWII, via the Shipyard 3 Trail. Along the way, we will view historic sites and learn about the amazing Kaiser shipyard operations featured in the Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park.
Bring $7.00/person for breakfast. Tours of the ship available at an additional fee of $5/person. Rain Cancels.
This will be a very casual ride and we will try to stay together as much as possible. Families are welcome so if you want to bring children that are either capable of riding the whole way or along for the ride in a trailer or an Xtracycle, everyone is welcome!
Where to meet
We will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the beginning of the Bay Trail in Emeryville north of West Frontage Road and Access Road. There is a small plaza on the ocean side north of Access Road. To get there from Powell St. west of I-80, turn right on Frontage Road and left on Access Road where the paved Bay Trail begins. It is just north of the Medamerica building at 2100 Powell. From here we ride together on the Bay Trail to the SS Red Oak Victory. The ride is almost all flat with a small hill at the back of Golden Gate Fields. It is 13.5 miles but there is an option to meet along the Bay Trail at Central Avenue in Richmond.
You can take BART to El Cerrito Plaza and ride 1 mile to the meeting point at 9:00 a.m. Since the breakfast will be served until 1:00 p.m. people can visit for as long as they want. We won't ride back in an organized group but you are encouraged to ride back with others that want to leave around the same time.
What to bring
Yourself, warm jacket for the early morning fog. It will most likely warm up in the afternoon so bring layers. Bicycle in strong working order, water, snacks and a spare tube and tools to fix a flat. The ride leader will have a limited selection of tools to assist if necessary. Helmets are strongly encouraged for adults and required for people under 18.
