Barcamp Cameroon: 6th edition

BarCamp Cameroon is the biggest annual gathering of passionate individuals from all fields of the digital and technology society: entrepreneurs, enthusiasts, bloggers, journalists, activists and students. It’s a meeting of forward-thinking minds coming together to discuss the myriad opportunities and challenges we face in this technological era. Barcamp is dubbed a « non » because of its informal format and on the spot scheduling. We see Barcamp as a combining platform between Cameroon's tech and civil society.

The event focuses on the latest innovations in terms of internet applications, free software and social networks in Cameroon and Africa.

In general, a Barcamp is a non-conference, a conference which is not very conventional. It is free and open to the public. Subscription is mainly online and a Barcamp is organized as a participatory workshop-event.

Content (presentations or projects) is provided by participants, who in their own way bring in something new to the Barcamp. Thus, the principle which governs all Barcamp is : "No spectator, all participants. "

The Barcamp has three major objectives:

• Bring together the largest number of people interested by technological development in various fields of work in Cameroon;
• Create IT partnerships between companies present;
• Achieve a framework for reliable discussions and exchanges on ICT issues...

THEME : “Digital Ocean”

We are between the web 3.0 era and the 4.0 era now in the world, an era called THE DIGITAL TIME. In fact, 2010 years are representing the period of the development of Internet in which everything is based on tools, services and applications as free as possible. Now we are talking about wise web, interactive web and meaningful web. And Cameroon as world is also involved in this era.

It's for this reason that the theme of this year in terms of how to use technology and web tools and applications ought to assure a successful economic progress and development. By the way of digitalisation of Cameroon, Kribi city in the Ocean Department in South Region of Cameroon is also concern. Why: It's one of the best touristic town in Cameroon and it's situated near the Atlantic Ocean. The theme “Digital Ocean” was choose to improve Tourism by IT and web issues.

Barcamp Cameroon: 6e édition

Le BarCamp Cameroun est le plus grand rassemblement annuel de passionnés de tous les domaines de la société numérique et de la technologie: les entrepreneurs, les amateurs, les blogueurs, les journalistes, les militants et les étudiants. C'est un rassemblement d'avangardiste qui se réunissent pour discuter des opportunités et une myriade de défis auxquels nous sommes confrontés en cette ère technologique.

Le Barcamp est qualifié de «non-conférence» à cause de son format informel et sur la programmation séance tenante. Nous voyons Barcamp comme une plateforme combinant entre les amoureux de technologie du Cameroun et la société civile. L'événement met l'accent sur les toutes dernières innovations en matière d'applications Internet, de logiciels libres et de réseaux sociaux au Cameroun et en Afrique.

En général, un barcamp est une non-conférence, une conférence pas très conventionnelle. Elle est libre et ouverte au public. On s’y inscrit préalablement en ligne et le barcamp est organisée sous forme d'ateliers-événements participatifs.

Le contenu (présentations ou projets) est fourni par les participants, qui apportent chacun à sa manière quelque chose au Barcamp. Ainsi, le principe qui gouverne tout barcamp est celui-ci : « Pas de spectateur, Tous participants. »

Le barcamp à 3 grands objectifs à atteindre :

• Réunir le plus grand nombre de personnes intéressées par le développement technologique dans divers domaines et corps de métiers du Cameroun ;
• Susciter différents partenariats IT entre entreprises présentes ;
• Parvenir à un cadre de discussion et d’échange fiable sur les TIC…

THEME : “Digital Ocean”

A l’ère du web 3.0 voire du 4.0, le monde entier est plongé dans ce que l’on appelle couramment le DIGITAL. Concrètement, les années 2010 représentent la période de l’évolution d’Internet où tout est basé sur les supports, les applications et les services de plus en plus libre technologiquement. Ce qui implique désormais que c’est l’ère du web intelligent, par conséquent, l’ère du web sémantique. Le Cameroun n’évoluant pas hors des considérations mondiales, se trouve de plein pied engagé dans ce web 3.0.

Voilà pourquoi le thème de cette année se rapporte à toutes les interactions liées aux supports et applications numériques en vue d'assurer un developpement technologique au Cameroun. Le chemin vers la digitalisation du pays s'empruntera dans le departement de l'Ocean, region du Sud Cameroun, ville Kribi. Quoi de plus normal de parler de « Digital Ocean », dans l'une des villes des plus touristiques du pays, et pourquoi pas, repenser le tourisme local grace au web et aux TIC.
