About the class
Micro franchising is rapidly growing as a scalable model to solve porverty around the world. The reason for this is that it gives the opportunity to low income citizens with no specific skills or business knowledge run a profitable business. This enables them to have enough economic resources to have a proper livelihood for them and their families.
Ricardo and his team have launched a pilot test with his project named Mercado Fresco. They sell healthy and nutritious food products in low income neighborhoods in Managua, Nicaragua, through in home stores managed by single mothers. In less than six months they co-created 12 of these stores. Families are making around $300 a month, enough to cover basic needs.

About Ricardo Amador
Ricardo is passionate about social entrepreneurship, sustainability, innovation and corporate social responsibility. He has experience in running his own business while earning his undergraduate degree in Economics and has founded and co-founded several organizations in the area of education, human rights and democracy. Ricardo earned a Master’s in Business Design and Innovation from Chalmers University in Sweden, and currently is a Professor at the Jesuit University of Central America teaching Development of Enterprises. He has also founded his own social business that has won or has been a finalist in numerous business plan competitions including Dell Social Innovations, Echoing Green, Stanford, Loyola and Wake Forrest.
