AWAKENHaiti Zumbathon! Featuring Lisa Oplinger & Guest YMCA Instructors
Saturday, January 12, 2013 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Come join us for high-energy fun that supports a great cause! The Zumbathon will feature Lisa Oplinger and other certified Zumba instructors from the Carlisle Family YMCA and the surrounding area. There also will be raffle prizes, which include a 3-month membership to the Carlisle Family YMCA and a gift basket from WJTL FM 90.3. Tickets can be purchased for $10 in advance of the Zumbathon or for $15 on the day of the event. Children under age 10 are free. Water and light refreshments will be provided for all participants. The event will be held on Saturday, January 12, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Stuart Community Center, 415 Franklin Street, Carlisle, PA. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m.
The event will mark the third anniversary of the earthquake that devastated Haiti in 2010. All proceeds from the Zumbathon will support AwakenHaiti’s efforts to construct a professional school and conduct a medical clinic in the tent city of Canaan, a once-vacant mountainside where thousands of Haitians now live in shacks and tents after being displaced from their homes following the earthquake.
Members of the team traveling to Haiti in February of 2013 will volunteer alongside Haitian workers to begin construction on the Canaan Professional School, which, when completed, will provide local Haitians with training in carpentry, furniture-making, cabinetry, electrical, plumbing, and construction management. The school will provide jobs, career training, and an income to fund further community development. 100% of all funds raised will be used for building materials and much needed Haitian wages.
