This course is intended to enhance the knowledge of interventions related to behaviors common to those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

 

Objectives:

At the completion of the program, you’ll be able to:

  • Describe the cycle of tantrums, rage and meltdowns and identify interventions that can be used at each stage
  •  Learn to identify how sensory processing can affect behaviors and be knowledgeable of home and clinic strategies of management.
  • Understand medical management relating to behaviors common to those with ASD

Intended Audience:

Pediatricians, Psychiatrists, Medical Professionals ,social workers, Physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists, teachers, and Parents/community

 

Agenda:

7:00 – 8 a.m.             Registration and Breakfast

 

8:00 – 8:15 a.m.       Welcome

8:15 – 10:15 a.m.    Cycle of Tantrums, Rage, and Meltdowns
(Brenday Miles PhD.)

  • Describe the cycle of tantrums, rage, and meltdown
  • Identify interventions that can be used at each stage of the cycle
  • Discuss ways to prevent the cycle from occurring

10:15-10:30 a.m.     Break/Visit exhibitors’ booths

10:30-12:00 p.m.     Cycle of Tantrums, Rage, and Meltdowns continued

12:00 – 1:00 p.m.    LUNCH/Visit Exhibitors Booths 

1:00 – 2:30  p.m.     Medical Management of Behaviors for those with ASD
                                    (Katherine Steingass, MD)

  • Understand medical management relating to behaviors common to ASD

2:30-2:45 p.m         Break/ Visit exhibitors Booths

2:45-4:00 p.m.      The Missing Piece: Sensory Processing Effecting Behaviors
                        (Linda New OTR/L)

  • Learn to identify how sensory processing can affect behavior
  • Identify strategies in the clinic and at home to affect behaviors.

 Accreditation Statements and Disclosure

Adena Health System is accredited by the Ohio State Medical Association to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Adena Health System designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.25  AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.

6.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits are applicable toward continuing education for nursing licensure.

 

This program is approved by the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board, RSX118902. This session has been approved for 6.25 CEU hours.

Adena Health System is a BOC approved provider for ATC.  OPTA and OT/PT CEU hours have been applied for.
