Acclaimed author David Helvarg will discuss his new book, The Golden Shore – California’s Love Affair with the Sea, on Feb. 22 at The Bay Theater in San Francisco. The Golden Shore examines the spirit of the Californian coast, its mythic place in American culture, and how the Pacific defines California. National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Sylvia Earle will introduce the program.

About the author:  David Helvarg is executive director of Blue Frontier Campaign and editor of the Ocean and Coastal Conservation Guide. He has spent much of his life working for ocean and coastal conservation. An award-winning journalist, he has written for the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, National Geographic, Popular Science, Sierra, and Parade, and has produced more than 40 documentaries for PBS, the Discovery Channel, and others. Previous books include Rescue Warriors. 50 Ways to Save the Ocean and Blue Frontier.
