PUSH is a seasonal professional dance company. We are casting dancers for tours to London, New York, Georgia; and, dance interns our for San Francisco 2013-2014 season.
Partake in one of the rare opportunities to experience the technique & choreography of up-and-coming choreography Raissa Simpson. Explore the process and forms of richly textured movement inherent to PUSH’s multidisciplinary works to discover new outlets of your own creative goals as an artist. The 2-days will focus on a deeper knowledge of pure dance principles, composition structure, and improvisation for all those willing to expand their philosophy of movement and technique.

Push Dance Company is devoted to presenting untold stories through dance. The Company tours nationally, works with youth centers, and presents cross-disciplinary dances to a growing diverse audience. Push has recently received funding to create a new project by artistic director Raissa Simpson entitled, “UNLOCK,” inspired by an African American novelist, Nora Neale Hurston.

Hailed by Dance Spirit Magazine as “Reflective Contemporary Choreography,” multi-disciplinary choreographer Raissa Simpson has presented her works in over 50 venues across the United States.
She began training in San Jose, California at Dance Art Studio and later continued onto San Jose Dance Theatre, Cleveland Ballet, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and the Paul Taylor School. After receiving her BFA from the Conservatory of Dance at SUNY Purchase, Simpson had an extensive performance career in the San Francisco Bay Area dancing with Robert Moses’ Kin and Joanna Haigood’s Zaccho Dance Theatre, among others.
As a freelance artist, she danced with Lucas Films, Tori Quinn, Alleluia Panis Dance Theater, Capacitor, Flyaway Productions, Liberation Dance Theater, Michael Mayes, and Peninsula Ballet. Along with serving as Assistant to the Director to Zaccho Dance Theatre, she is featured in the film “Never Stand Still,” at Jacob’s Pillow.
Seamlessly integrating multimedia with cutting-edge choreography, Simpson’s pieces do not reside merely on stage—they are also site-specific installations in public spaces like museums and city centers. Her work is sweeping, vibrant, multi-layered, and socially relevant often involving multiple aspects such as video projection, live music, and Aerial Dance.
She currently teaches and guest choreographs her unique style of movement to all types of movers.
Push Dance Company (Push) under the direction of Raissa Simpson, melds music and media, deftly weaving intergenerational and inter-community voices to create a potent force that advances the idiom of dance.
