About Brian T. Murphy
Brian spearheads Quarter Rest Studios, a collaborative music design studio based in Brooklyn, New York.
He is constantly at work with bands, songwriters, film scores, tv and advertising.
Quarter Rest Studios's niche is their amazing location and relationships, and their music is always modern, understated, and "exactly what you are looking for."
As the son of an accomplished jazz musician Brian grew up in Baltimore and in Birmingham both playing and loving music.
Brian always loved to compose, and in college he began recording and producing with several bands, including a band based out of Birmingham and Nashville called Parkers Back, which was later signed to a major deal with Universal Records.
Brian and the rest of Parkers Back went on tour with the Counting Crows, John Mayer, James Taylor, and a host of smaller but regionally famous bands like Mindy Smith and My Morning Jacket. Their manager previously managed Radiohead and Nirvana, so Brian was soon immersed in learning from industry pros about the recording industry, record labels, and how records are made.
At the same time, Brian remained busy in Birmingham with a studio in the Lakeview district working with local bands. He started a band called The Spots, which led him to commercial work in music. This eventually led Brian to working on TV shows, films, and commercials.
in 2010, Brian moved to Brooklyn, NY to pursue music at a higher level. He's involved with several bands, and one of his main bands is a 7-piece soulful rock country band which sells out every show they have in NYC. Their newest record, which comes out in a couple months, was produced by Charlie Peacock, whom you may know as a recent Grammy winner for his work with the Civil Wars.
Brian has broad experience working with a variety of world-class musicians, from broadway singers to artists from the popular indie label Asthmatic Kitty (like Sufjan Stevens, Foote Brothers, Welcome Wagon, and Gregory Brothers). This year alone Brian has already made 6 records, finished one film soundtrack and started a new one, completed a number of commercials, and has pitched for big brands like Cheerios, Ford, and Folgers.
