Teenagers lives are full of decisions, opportunities, biological/emotional changes, and muliple influences. Under the best of circumstances a teens life is active with family, school, and friends making demands on their time and energy. Add the complications of dating, a job, and other issues (i.e., sexuality, identity, self-esteem), and the strain on time, coping and stress can be overwhelming.

If that teen is also an avid, serious participant in some form of "performance", added dimensions and complications are introduced to the scenario. There are the added possible benefits of increased popularity, self-esteem, self-efficacy, feelings of belongingness, and scholarships or other forms of financially beneficial compensation. However, these desired benefits come at the price of added pressures for the teen such as:

Less time for friends / dating / family / school / work / less energy for coping with existing responsibilities / pressure to live up to the expectations of parents, friends / coach or trainer / and less time to deal with the usual developmental issues associated with adolescents. Our society’s overemphasis on immediate gratification, being the best, and “winning at all costs” increases the pressure to perform at a much higher level.

As a coach, performer, former teacher, author and most importantly the mother of two daughters, I offer a unique approach to teens. In our time together, we will explore who you are as a whole, how you manage the many stressors involved with being a teenager/performer, develop a plan of action for balance and a champion's mindset.
