First, thank you for your interest in volunteering with HomeStretch at the Atlanta Marathon/ Adopt a Mile fundraiser on . This is the third year we have hosted a cheer section and it's really a lot of fun. Besides having fun, it is an opportunity to raise a significant donation for HomeStretch to support our homeless working families with housing, mentoring and education in just a few hours of volunteer time.Here are the details and logistics for the event.Registration:This year all volunteers must register online so the Atlanta Track Club (ATC) can track volunteers for each charity. Use the link below to register – it takes just a couple of minutes. Your information will not be shared with anyone other than ATC. Please use the Comment section to enter your organization name so we can know who’s coming from each group.Start and finish time:On race day, our volunteers need to be in place and sign in at – before the roads are closed. We will be done around . We will be cheering for 2 races - the full marathon (26.2 miles) and the 10 mile run.Location:Cheer Zone- We are assigned to mile 20 - 21 along the marathon course. Park at Showcase Camera, 2323 Cheshire Bridge Rd., Atlanta near the intersection ofLaVista Rd and Briarcliff Rd.Water/Aid Station (#13)- We will ask some of our volunteers to man the water station about a half mile from Showcase Camera at the intersection of Johnson Rd and Meadowdale Ave near house # 1693.Parking:Please try to carpool as parking is limited and roads will be closed around the race course.Here’s a google map link with Showcase Camera location:https://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF-8&q=showcase+camera&fb=1&gl=us&hq=showcase+camera&cid=0,0,17138587983136090637&ei=oSMyUv32N-7O2QXr3IGYAw&ved=0CDIQrwswAAOur Role:We will be spread out between mile marker 20 to 21 cheering, applauding, singing, dancing and encouraging the runners. Donations to HomeStretch are based on our enthusiasm, costumes, signs and banners at both the cheer zone and water station so we want to impress and excite them!What to Wear/What to Bring:· Signs- Bring homemade posters, signs or banners with catchy slogans like ”You’re nearing the HomeStretch”, “Run Fast” or something creative and funny.· Noise makers- Bring blowers, rattles, kazoos, tambourines, drums and CD players with great motivating tunes· Costumes- Wear fun hats, costumes, feather boas, glasses- anything entertaining. Remember- donations are based on our costumes and enthusiasm!· Weather- Dress for the weather which may be cool that early. We will have a tent and heater but the race goes in rain or shine.
