Event Details

The “Future of Quality and Improvement” lies in improving education for our children. In the greater Charlotte area, we are so very fortunate to have a benchmark school system. We are proud to invite our members and other interested participants to tour an example of excellence in education, representing the 2008 Malcolm Baldrige National Award Recipient, Iredell Statesville Schools (I-SS). Over the last 11 years, I-SS has seen graduation rates grow from 61% to 88.1%.

Dr. Melanie Taylor, Associate Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for I-SS and Kelly Hinson, Principal for Lakeshore Elementary will host the event, which will include a tour of several classrooms followed by an interactive Q&A discussion on I-SS’s Malcolm Baldrige journey and how they transformed the culture of the school district.   Snacks and drinks will be provided.

Registration is free to all attendees but limited to only 30 people so register now! Registration will close as soon as 30 people have signed-up, or by October 29th. Each attendee must be registered individually as we need to turn in the list of names for security reasons prior to the tour.

About Iredell Statesville Schools (http://iss.schoolwires.com)

We Believe...the best educational environment for our students is one that is tailored specifically to their interests and needs. With more than 21,000 students, Iredell-Statesville Schools ranks among the 20 largest school districts in North Carolina, and our 36 schools offer a wide array of services and programs to meet the unique demands of our student population. From International Baccalaureate programs to challenge even the most advanced learner, to our alternative schools and differentiated diploma program designed to help students who need extra support to graduate, the district ensures there is something for everyone.

As a district committed to continuous improvement and a 2008 recipient of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, Iredell-Statesville Schools serves as a model school district not only for other districts in North Carolina, but also across the entire nation. Most recently, Iredell-Statesville Schools was selected as a recipient of a prestigious federal i3 grant, worth approximately $5 million and a $20 million Race to the Top District Grant.

About Lakeshore Elementary (http://iss.schoolwires.com/Domain/1550)

Lakeshore Elementary School strives to maintain a high level of performance with 91% of our students scoring proficient in Reading and Math.  We increased our overall proficiency composite for math and reading more than 6 points from 2010-2011 school year to 2011-2012 school year.  Office discipline referrals have been on a steady decline since 2010-2011 going from 237 to 157 in 2012-2013.  We are proud to maintain 17 business partnerships and offer a Volunteer/Mentor program that clocked 10,000 hours last year.   These hours have steadily increased over the past three years. We are constantly in a state of Continuous Improvement. Teachers work collaboratively to problem solve and utilize data to make decisions.  Data is maintained at all levels of the organization down to the individual student level.  Students maintain data folders and are able to discuss their areas of strength and weakness.  We have been recognized by the district as an RtI Exemplary School and strive to problem solve through a PDSA approach in areas of academic, behavior, and operations.  We continuously monitor fidelity of our work to insure that we are delivering the best education possible for all students.
