Description

The Texas Chapter of ASID Austin Design Community invites all designers, industry partners, architects, educators, and students to the 2016 Elevate Austin by Design Conference hosted by ASID Industry Partner Ferguson [700 E Saint Elmo Rd, Austin, TX 78745] on Friday, June 10, 2016 from 9am-5pm.

Elevate Austin is a full day CEU event featuring IDCEC*-approved CEUs and several HSW CEUs that qualify for TBAE continuing education requirements for Registered Interior Designers.

*Be prepared to provide your IDCEC Identification Number during the registration process. Members of ASID, if you do not know your IDCEC number, you can find it by logging into asid.org and going to the Admin section of My Account and clicking on the "Your IDCEC Number" link.]

We are excited to feature nationally acclaimed author and local Austin designer Kim Lewis of Kim Lewis Designs as this year’s keynote speaker. Don’t miss a day full of industry relevant information and networking!

12:00 PM | White: The Mother of All Colors

In this course we will look at how we define white as a color, it’s appearance throughout history, the importance of light on all color but especially white, the psychological and physiological effects of white and finally the application of white in interior and exterior spaces. *Considered GEN for IDCEC, but considered HSW for TBAE.

2:00 PM | Quartz Surfacing: Attributes and Benefits

This course covers the fundamentals of quartz surfacing, including its performance attributes vs. alternative products and typical applications in commercial and residential environments. The course provides an overview of typical production: testing and quality-assurance processes that are common practice within the quartz surfacing industry. Additional topics include the manufacturing process and the professionals involved in the supply chain, from raw material to the end consumer or project, as well as best practices in fabrication and installation of quartz surfacing.

2:00 PM | Specifying Glass Tile with Confidence

This course is designed to educate the audience on the types of glasstile on the market today. There are many types of glass on the market produced in various ways. We will go over the history of glass tile, quality standards in place to help protect the consumers, manufacturing methods, mounting methods, sustainability and installation methods. At the end of this presentation, the audience will have the confidence to specify the right products for the right applications.

3:00 PM | Advanced Ceramic Tile Methods, Standards and Materials
presented by Tracy Robertson of American Olean

Provides solid foundation of all aspect of ceramic tile and installation materials for high quality visually and thermally comfortable and energy efficient buildings. Explains complexity of using ceramic tile as suitable flooring source in buildings and demonstrates design strategies for a multitude of space types by graphically analyzing several examples of installation and product composition. ANSI and TCNA criteria are reviewed and their relationships are explained. Installation methods are reviewed and case studies are used to demonstrate these methods on real buildings from schematic design to post occupancy.

The American Society of Interior Designers [ASID] is a community of people – designers, industry representatives, educators and students – committed to interior design. Through education, knowledge sharing and advocacy, the Society strives to advance the interior design profession and, in the process, to demonstrate and celebrate the power of design to positively impact and change people’s lives. Of the Society’s 24,000 Practitioners, 20% practice Residential design, 30% practice Commercial design, and 50% practice both.The ASID Texas Chapter represents 1,700+ Practitioner, Educator, Student and Industry Representative members (almost 1,100 of which are Practitioners and/or Educators) throughout the state of Texas excluding the greater Houston area, which is covered by the ASID Texas Gulf Coast Chapter. Since the Texas Chapter is quite large both in membership and in geographic expanse, most of the programming throughout the year takes place in the Design CommunitiesAustin, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, and West Texas. Our members work in both the residential and commercial fields, either as sole proprietors or as part of small or large firms. Within the state and around the world, they provide valuable services and useful products to their clients. Our members strive to improve the quality of life for all of their clients through the creation of aesthetically pleasing, thoughtful design that takes into account the health, safety and welfare of the public.
