Roberto Ramirez, P.E. Project Manager, Cordoba Corporation

 

Topic: "Bringing the Space Shuttle Home-The Final Journey"

See how civil engineers enabled the Space Shuttle Endeavor to reach its final destination and home.  The journal may have looked easy but a lot of planning and effort was made to allow the execution to run seamlessly.  Come join us for lunch and find out what considerations were made to maneuver the shuttle between and around obstacles and the efforts made to protect utilities, street lights and trees. Also learn what considerations were made to distribute the shuttle’s loads to enable its travel over bridges.  See what efforts were made to accommodate viewing due to widespread public interest. 

 

About the Speakers:

Martin (Marty) Fabrick is the California Science Center Foundation’s Project Director for transfer of the Space Shuttle orbiter Endeavour from NASA to the Foundation, transport of Endeavour to the Science Center, placement of Endeavour at the Samuel Oschin Space Shuttle Endeavour Display Pavilion and planning for the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center.   Mr. Fabrick collaborated with NASA for preparation of the Space Shuttle Orbiter Endeavour for display and oversaw the transfer of related ground support equipment.  Mr. Fabrick led logistics planning, permit acquisition and technical activities for the arrival of Endeavour at Los Angeles International Airport and its transport to Endeavour’s new home at the California Science Center along 12 miles of urban streets.  

Mr. Fabrick’s earliest involvement with the Space Shuttle was with planning and preliminary design of Space Shuttle ground support infrastructure at Kennedy Space Center as well as transporting the first orbiter from its Palmdale assembly site to Edwards Air Force Base.  He also oversaw ground support systems engineering and environmental planning for the planned Space Shuttle Western Launch Site at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California which was largely completed before its cancellation.

Mr. Fabrick holds a B. Sc.  degree in Biological Sciences from the University of California at Davis, a M.Sc. in Ecology from U.C. Davis, and a MBA from the University of California at Los Angeles.

Roberto Ramirez, PE is a Senior Project Manager for Cordoba Corporation and had the great opportunity to serve as the Project Manager for the Shuttle Transport Project.

Mr. Ramirez earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from California State University Sacramento and has over fifteen years of experience in the industry.

His well-rounded design and construction management experience, beginning with geometric alignments, roadway/highway design, drainage improvements, SWPPP development, and cost estimating brings a clear understanding of the final PS&E package.
