Event Details

As Director of Design Programs for the National Endowment for the Arts, and through his other positions with the Massachusetts Cultural Council and Leveraging Investments in Creativity, Jason Schupbach has been at the forefront of the creative placemaking movement nationally. Schupbach manages a $10 million annual portfolio of design and creative placemaking grants and initiatives, serves as national liaison to and steward for the design and creative placemaking fields for the Federal government, manages a number of design leadership initiatives including the Mayors’ Institute on City Design, Governors’ Institute on Community Design and Citizens’ Institute on Rural Design, and leads partnership efforts with the General Service Administration to reinvigorate the role of design quality in Federal investments.

Schupbach will share his insights on creative placemaking at the Arts and Culture Roundtable on July 26, 2013 where his comments will focus on national trends in creative placemaking, design’s contribution to the creative placemaking field, what works and what doesn’t from the creative placemaking projects that have been funded by the NEA (including those in Cleveland) and perspectives on where the creative placemaking field (and funding) is headed.

Registration and coffee will begin at 8 a.m. in Pogue Lobby. The discussion will start at 8:30 including questions and discussion and will end at 10 a.m.

Free parking for CIM is available in the CIM parking lot on Hazel Drive. There is also street parking on Hazel Drive and East Boulevard. If the CIM lot is full, and depending upon their schedules, adjacent institutions' parking facilities may also be available. These include the Cleveland Botanical Garden, the Western Reserve Historical Society, the University Circle Incorporated Administration Building and Severance Hall.

Please post questions ahead of time to our Creative Compass forum. We'll share these posts with the event moderator prior to the live discussion. The Arts and Culture Roundtable is a forum for representatives from the arts and culture community to come together and discuss common concerns and solutions.
