This workshop is the first of a two-part series on guiding entrepreneurs through the steps of successfully communicating with potential investors. The purpose of this first workshop is to provide entrepreneurs a framework for structuring their elevator pitch and formal business plan slide presentation. The second event, Pitch Night, will offer a "real time" opportunity for entrepreneurs to pitch their business ideas and get valuable feedback from a panel of investor judges.

The event is open to all members of the Northwestern community. Attendance at the Art of Pitching event is MANDATORY for entrepreneurs wishing to present at Pitch Night.

About the Panelists 

Tom Loverro (KSM '11) is a Principal at RRE Ventures. Tom focuses on early and expansion stage investments in the enterprise, consumer & digital media, mobile, and financial technology spaces. Tom is actively involved with RRE's investments in Drobo and On Deck Capital. Prior to joining RRE, Tom worked at Lightbank in Chicago, where he focused on early stage investments including Betterfly. Tom began his career at Goldman Sachs & Co., where he advised technology, media and telecommunications clients on M&A and corporate finance. Following Goldman, Tom joined RRE as an analyst where he was active in investments including Drobo, OpenPeak and Rave Wireless. Tom's involvement in Drobo led to him join the company full-time where he took responsibility for the company's marketing, branding and product launch efforts. Tom is a Mentor for Blueprint Health in New York and Excelerate Labs in Chicago. He is also the Founder of the Young Executive Board of CampInteractive, a non-profit in Bronx, NY. Tom holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, where he was an Austin Scholar, and a BA from Stanford University, where he graduated with Distinction.

Charlie Kemper (NU '98) is a Founding Partner & Managing Director at Revel Partners, an early expansion stage venture firm focused on digital advertising technologies, and a Co-Founder & General Partner at Entrepreneurs Roundtable Accelerator, a leading NYC-born seed-stage investment fund & accelerator program. Before helping launch Revel and ERA in 2010, Charlie was a Principal with Steelpoint Capital Partners, a media & technology growth equity firm he joined in 2005. Previously, Charlie helped launch plan an early-stage venture fund focused on Latin America called Darby Technology Ventures. Earlier in his career, Charlie was a Co-Founder & Managing Director of a Chicago-based digital media agency, KMF, focused on intranet design and e-commerce system integration.  Currently, Charlie is also a Founding Officer & Chair of the New York City Venture Connection, a networking organization comprised of the leading venture capital firms in the Greater New York area.  He also serves on the investor board of Venture for America, a nonprofit that places top-flight college graduates in cities of economic need and entrepreneurial promise.  Charlie is also a Venture Partner at TigerLabs Health, a healthcare technology focused seed stage fund.  Charlie holds a BS in Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University.

Elgin Thompson (KSM '02) is the Director of Mergers & Acquisitions at The Williams Capital Group, L.P., a boutique investment bank headquartered in New York.  He also leads the firm’s Media and Technology sector coverage.Prior to joining the firm, Elgin was the Vice President of Corporate Development for GridNetworks, Inc., a venture-backed online video provider.  Previously, he was a Vice President in the Media Investment Banking Group at Bear Stearns, focusing on digital media.  Prior to joining Bear Stearns, Elgin was a member of the Media & Telecom Investment Banking Group at Merrill Lynch.  He began his career as an M&A attorney with the law firms Wildman Harrold and DLA Piper.  Elgin serves on the Advisory Board of CyberSynchs, New York-based data synchronization platform.  He is also a competitive marathoner and serves on the Board of Directors of the Central Park Track Club, a USA Track & Field Elite Development Club. Elgin received an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University, a J.D. from Temple University and B.A. from Northern Illinois University.

Jennifer Hill (KSM '04) is an international start-up lawyer advising high-growth technology companies and venture funds around the world, and an entrepreneurial and small business contributor to MSNBC, CBSi and CNN Money. She's held senior business development and marketing roles at tech companies in Silicon Valley and Austin, and she now resides in the NYC area. Kellogg Alumni Entrepreneurs New York

Kellogg Alumni Entrepreneurs Group (kaegNY) is a committee of the Kellogg Alumni Club. It was founded in 2009 to provide networking opportunities and instructional workshops for alumni engaged in or considering a career in entrepreneurship. Membership is open to all alumni of Northwestern University.
