The Effective Black Parenting Series is designed to meet the needs of African-American families. Start with what you know ... and develop the skills you need to ensure the growth and success of your children. The series, led by Arnold James, Ph.D., delivers dynamic and participatory sessions every 1st Saturday of the month.



Arnold H. James, Ph.D. is a well-respected clinical psychologist whose insight on the conditions which impact the African-American family have made him a highly sought-after guest lecturer and practitioner in New Orleans.  Dr. James received his Doctorate of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology from the University of South Carolina where he also earned his Master's of Public Health degree and completed his undergraduate studies in psychology. He currently serves as an assistant professor of psychology at the Tulane School of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Studies. He is a psychologist in Southeast Louisiana Hospital's acute unit.

Dr. James research includes the mental health effects experienced by children with incarcerated parents; the relationship between anger and essential hypertension in African-American women; and the success of psychosocial treatment of cocaine dependence in African-American men.
