APRIL Illinois Task Force on Social Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Enterprise Meeting

I’m happy to announce that the Task Force’s April meeting will take place on the 5th Floor, Room C-500 at the Michael A. Bilandic Building, 160 North LaSalle Street, Chicago, at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014. The meeting is expected to adjourn at about 6 p.m.
Mr. Jeff Biggers will offer his testimony in support of an “Illinois Coalfields Regeneration Fund” in response to mounting health, environmental and social costs associated with Illinois’ coal mining rush.
Mr. Biggers is the American Book Award-winning author of five books of history, including Reckoning at Eagle Creek: The Secret Legacy of Coal in the Heartland (Nation/Basic Books), which received the David Brower Award for Environmental Reporting and Southern Illinois University's Delta Award for Literature. His award-winning stories have appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Guardian, The Nation, and National Public Radio. His op-ed in the Washington Post, "Clean Coal? Don't Try To Shovel That," was cited by Thomas Friedman in his book, "Hot, Flat and Crowded." Mr. Biggers writes frequently on environmental and energy stories for Salon, Al Jazeera, and Huffington Post. He is currently Writer-in-Residence at the Office of Sustainability at the University of Iowa.
