Agenda (subject to change)
6:45- 7:15PM - Stump the Gurus
Join Gurus Michael Kammas, Monica Daniel, Al Mooney and Philip Hodgetts as they will attempt to answer all of your questions and solve all of your problems concerning FCS and FCPX, Avid, Premiere Pro and anything else you can think of. If they can't solve your problem or answer your question, then you go home with a problem, but you still got out of the house, so that's not a bad thing.
7:20PM - 7:35PM - Announcements
lafcpug sponsor AJA will give us the latest. Also if we have time, this is your time. Get up and tell us something about yourself. Ask for a job, offer a job. Whatever you want. Keep it brief. I also want to update everyone on the new projector and discuss ways to raise money to buy it.
7:40PM - 8:15PM - Final Cut Pro X - 4K RED Workflow - Sam Mestman and Neil Smith
Sam Mestman from Lumaforge will be demoing the extensive 4k RED workflow capabilities Final Cut Pro X has to offer and explain why it's now just as easy to deliver in 4k as it is in 1080. He'll also be showing how FCPX can simplify as well as expand the traditional roles of the DIT, Assistant Editor, Editor, and colorist in an FCPX-Resolve pipeline to allow them to spend more time on the creative process, and less time on conforming/troubleshooting/banging your head against the wall. He'll take you from best practices for importing and grading your RED footage, to how to work with your metadata to speed up project prep, to taking advantage of some of FCPX's power features like the timeline index, all the way down to how FCPX integrates with Resolve for seamless delivery, regardless of resolution. FCPX has undergone an astonishing amount of development since it was first released, and is now a compelling option for professional DIT's, editors, and colorists, regardless of your workflow or deliverable.
About Sam Mestman
Sam Mestman has worked for Apple, ESPN, “Glee,” and Break.com, to name a few, and is now the Chief Workflow Architect for Lumaforge. He’s also a regular writer forMovieMaker Magazine, teaches post workflow at RED’s REDucation classes, and specializes in saving independent producers tens of thousands of dollars while delivering a top quality product. He is also the founder and CEO of We Make Movies, which in just three years might have become the largest film collective in Los Angeles (and now Toronto).
8:30PM - 9:00PM - Break
In the lobby will be many FCP, Avid and Premiere Gurus. This is your chance to ask questions. No questions? Then talk to each other. The break is a chance to hang out and meet and greet and get your problems solved and who knows, get a job. You never know who you are going to meet at lafcpug. Snacks and Beer and Wine will be on sale in the lobby. Proceeds go to the Gallery Theater.
9:00PM - 9:50PM - Adobe Premiere Pro Next - Al Mooney
Many of you already have seen or read about what is coming in Adobe's Premiere Pro Next. You might have read this article by Gerard Tay. Or this article by Clay Asbury. Or have seen this presentation by Jason Levine. Well Al Mooney returns to lacpug in person to show us this and more. But more importantly there will be lots of time for questions and feedback. Let Adobe know what you like and what you want and what you don't understand. Be part of Adobe Premiere Pro Next.
