How Food Trucks Use Social Media
to Drive Business

Tues, April 16, 2013

6 pm - 8 pm

ACC Eastview Campus - Multipurpose Rm 8500

(RSVP fast - limited seating this time!)

 Austin's 1st Gypsy Picnic 2010

Food trailers, mobile carts, food trucks - whatever you call them, their savory and sweet delights cast a magical spell on all of us fool lovers and help keep Austin weird!

In this panel you'll hear social media straight talk from local food truck owners and food bloggers. How does each develop a voice? How do they harness social media for a hyperlocal audience? Is SoLoMo (Social, Local, Mobile) a thing or just an awesome name for a new food trailer on SoCo?

The caveat - Due to back-to-back events at ACC Eastview, we have seats for only 80 people. (Many thanks to Jill Brockman, who was able to twist arms and call in favors for us!) So please, RSVP only if you're going to come, and release your ticket if you sign up and then can't make it.

Our palatable panelists are:

  • Anna Cummins, Co-owner/Marketing, The Evil Weiner
  • Brittany Platt, Director of Marketing, Torchy's Tacos
  • Eric Silverstein, Founder, The Peached Tortilla
  • Tony Yamanaka, Founder, foodtrailersaustin.com

Jennie Chen, Trendline Interactive's Director of Research and Content Development, will moderate the discussion.

Join us at 6:00 for pizza, networking and mingling. Our panel discussion starts at 6:30. Hope to see you there!

Anna Cummins (@annakcummins)

Anna CumminsAnna Cummins, co-owner of The Evil Weiner, is an entrepreneur with a passion for marketing and business development.

Brittany Platt (@TorchyTaco)

Brittany Platt, Marketing Director of Torchy's TacosBrittany Platt has been involved with the hospitality industry for the last 12 years.  She moved from Lubbock to attend The University of Texas at Austin in 2004, and while in school, found more than a part-time job slinging tacos late at night.

After a year of trailer counter service, Platt convinced the owners of Torchy’s that there was a lack of conversation with their cult-like fans, so in 2008, Platt devised a strategy that boosted Torchy's online share of voice by over 500%.  With that success, Brittany became the Director of Communications, then later Director of Marketing for Torchy’s Tacos in 2011.  She has since helped Torchy’s open 16 storefront locations across Austin, Houston and Dallas, and continues pushing the brand towards what she calls “The Taco Dream.”

Platt currently upholds all PR and marketing efforts for all three of Torchy’s markets, and manages an online community of over 100,000 advocates.  She has helped Torchy’s obtain numerous Best Of awards in Austin and Dallas and achieve a Most Uniquely Austin Award from the Austin Chamber of Commerce.  She currently lives in Austin with her husband, son, and dog Swayze

Eric Silverstein (@peachedtortilla)

Eric SilversteinEric is the founder of the peached tortilla, Eater Austin's 2011 Food Truck of the Year and winner of Austin Food Blogger Alliance's 2012 Best Downtown Food Trailer. He is a former litigator who decided to pursue a different career path and marry his passions of food and business. Eric was born in Tokyo, Japan, where during the early part of his life he was heavily influenced by Japanese and Chinese cuisine. At the age of ten, Eric moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he was introduced to traditional Southern cuisine, or better yet, “soul food.” It is his exposure to such divergent flavors and cuisines at an early age which serves as the backdrop for the peached tortilla. Eric is also a self professed “mobile food junkie” and has an insatiable love for street food.

Tony Yamanaka (@foodtrailersatx)

Antonio Yamanaka, Founder of Food Trailers AustinTony started Food Trailers Austin in 2010 to provide a hub for Austin’s burgeoning mobile food scene. Through the site, he has had the pleasure of meeting trailer owners and operators, getting to know their passions and experiencing the byproduct of that passion by way of tasting their food. Tony also founded the Austin Food Trailer Alliance in May 2011 in an effort to bring together the titans of the industry as one collaborative body.
