New Orleans, LA – 504 Magazine will proudly join in the International Jazz Day celebrations taking place all over the world on April 30, 2013 by presenting A Tribute to the Music of Herbie Hancock & John Coltrane. This mid-day concert will honor both Herbie Hancock (the Goodwill Ambassador for UNESCO) and the legendary John Coltrane.

Beginning at 1:00 pm, the Yisrael Trio conducted by Dr. Lud Yisrael will present their tribute to the music of Herbie Hancock.  The Yisrael Trio is one of the country’s leading young jazz bands and a product of the Neo Jazz School of Music.  The Neo Jazz School of Music an organization from Birmingham, AL has now relocated to New Orleans.  The organization is on a mission to enact a positive change in area  youth  through an education in music also to educate, train, and develop gifted students into professional musicians.  The school was developed by Dr. Lud Yisrael in 2004 as an outreach for Birmingham area youth and taught music, discipline and general life skills. The Neo Jazz Collective a youth jazz ensemble directed by Dr. Lud was the catalyst which inspired a music school.  The school began its outreach in the New Orleans area in January 2013.  More information on programming can be found atwww.neojazz.net.

At 3:00 pm the celebration continues with a musical tribute to John Coltrane presented by Africa Brass featuring world renown saxophonist Mr. Tim Green with special guests Matt Lemmler (piano/vocals), and Rob Wagner (saxophone).  Africa Brass represents the most innovative, globally inspired marriage of brass and drums. To envision the sound of Africa Brass, close your eyes, and imagine the sound of West African rhythms connecting with Jazz and ultimately falling in love with New Orleans brass. Africa Brass’ music has been described as powerful, moving, and spiritual, bridging the cultures of two continents and eight centuries. The music of John Coltrane crossed this bridge as the sounds of West Africa greatly influenced Trane, and his music and spirit has inspired Africa Brass. Its one of the many reason why we pay a special tribute to him on this International Day of Jazz celebration.
