Angry Conversations with God: The Solo Show
at The Showroom
149 S. Daniel Morgan Ave., downtown Spartanburg
Saturday, November 10th, 7:00 pm
When Susan, a 40-something Hollywood actress and comedienne, finds herself jobless, loveless and living over a garage, she begins to question her faith. After an uptight church friend tells her to think of God as her husband, Susan sarcastically decides takes God to marriage counseling to see if they can stick together “for better or worse.”
Thus begins “Angry Conversations with God: The Solo Show,” written and performed by Susan Isaacs (“Seinfeld,” “Parks and Recreation,” Scrooged, Planes Trains and Automobiles, et al), which premiered at the Two Roads Theater in Studio City California, under the direction of Matthew Corozine.
The comedy is based on Isaacs’ critically acclaimed book, Angry Conversations with God: A Snarky but Authentic Spiritual Memoir (FaithWords). Framing the story around fictional counseling sessions with the Almighty, Susan chronicles her personal and professional struggles (alcohol, eating disorders, dysfunctional romances) as well as her combative relationship with corporatized church.
