Anatomy of a Real Estate Development Project – 20 Somerset Street

Using Suffolk University’s $62 million development project at 20 Somerset Street, you will learn how a real estate project is organized and executed.  Topics include: acquisition, permitting and approvals, market analysis, construction, community relations, design and financing, etc.  You will also take a tour of the 20 Somerset Project and experience development operations firsthand.

Instructors:
Mahmood Malihi
is as co-manager of the firm's development business, Mahmood has management responsibilities for the development group's on-going business. In addition, Mahmood acts as project executive for select client relationships and principal investments.  Mahmood has acted in a variety of roles, including Chief Operating Officer, Director of Mid-Atlantic Development, and Director of LMP's fee-for-service activities. Currently he co-manages LMP's development activities, is a member of the Executive Committee as well as the Investment Committee, and consults on numerous.







Robert Palumbo
is a seasoned development professional with nearly four decades of experience in real estate and construction. Bob joined Leggat McCall following 11 years with Beacon Properties Corporation/Beacon Capital Partners where he held the position of Vice President - Development and had responsibility for overseeing the master planning, permitting, design, construction and marketing of such projects as Technology Square @ MIT, a 1.6 million SF research, office and laboratory campus located in Cambridge, MA, and Channel Center, a $400 million mixed-use project located in Boston's Waterfront District.  While at Leggat McCall, Bob has worked with a number of institutional clients including the First Church of Christ, Scientist and their 1.7 million square foot Christian Science Plaza Revitalization Plan that includes 950,000 SF of new mixed-use development. Bob is also part of the team providing strategic advisory services to Harvard University with regard to their 360 acres of land holdings in Allston, MA. He is also providing advisory services to Suffolk University for their Boston real estate portfolio including project management for a new $62 million Academic and Science building on Beacon Hill.


Richard Taylor
is executive in residence at the Sawyer Business School at Suffolk University and serves as the Director of their Center for Real Estate. He teaches among other courses, Introduction to Real Estate Principles and Real Estate Development and Public Policy. He previously served as Vice President for Real Estate Development at Fidelity Investments working on the World Trade Center in the Innovation District. He has also served as Secretary of Transportation and Construction for Massachusetts. He currently serves as Chairman of the Taylor Smith Group, a Boston based real estate development and commercial brokerage firm.
