upSKILL will present Mary Gatta, senior scholar at Wider Opportunities for Women (WOW). She will discuss her book, All I Want Is A Job!: Unemployed Women Navigating the Public Workforce System. She went undercover as a waitress trying to navigate the New Jersey One-Stop Career Centers; her talk will address how, based on her expereinces, our workforce development policy and programs can be improved to better meet the needs of all job seekers. Registration is requested but not required.
When & Where
upSKILL is a program managed by a consortium of colleges, Workforce Investment Boards, industry partners and professional associations in northern New Jersey. This consortium, led by the New Jersey Institute of Technology, has been awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to offer specialized IT &STEM training to unemployed professionals and veterans in New Jersey. The purpose is to enable these U.S. workers to upgrade their skills so they can successfully compete for IT & STEM jobs currently in demand by New Jersey employers.
