CSS layouts are tough...I don't care who you are!
Floats and clearfixing are just hard concepts to grasp, and building layouts in CSS the proper way is no small feat. Come to this evening workshop and learn to create your own responsive layouts.
In the first hour, we will cover the concepts behind floats and exactly what they do and don't do. We will then learn about grids, and how to make our layouts responsive.
In the last hour, we will build our own layouts from scratch, and experiment with a simple twelve column grid. If all goes as planned, you will be a master by the end of the night!
Who should come?
Anyone with a beginning to intermediate knowledge of HTML and CSS. You should understand the structure of an HTML document, the concept of file paths, and how to apply CSS styles to HTML from a separate stylesheet.
Also backend developers looking to sharpen their frontend chops - there's a lot of crazy stuff happening in this realm, and this would be a great way to get your feet wet.
You will need:
- A laptop (Mac preferred, but Windows is totally fine)
- Sublime Text 3 (or your text editor of choice)
Also, take a few minutes to read CSS Floats 101 to familiarize yourself with the concepts ahead of time.
About the Workshop
The "An evening with..." workshop series is a monthly-ish workshot series hosted by Lara Schenck. Each workshop addresses specific topics in front-end design and development, ranging from beginning HTML/CSS to more advanced topics like Git and Sass.
I'm a firm believer in teaching small groups, so the workshops are limited to 5 people to ensure you get the most out of the night. If you miss the boat for this one, join the waitlist and you'll be the first to know about the next one.
Stay tuned for more!
