The style of music has many names. Rumba flamenca reflects the fusion of flamenco, a Spanish folk/artistic music tradition and rumba is from Afro-Cuban rhythms. This style of music was made popular by the Gipsy Kings in the 1980s. Since the 1990's Ruben Gonzalez, director of Pasión Gitana, developed a unique and dynamic style of guitar; which included a fusion of flamenco, rock and roll, and Cuban boleros.
Ruben Gonzalez, lead guitarist and Spanish vocalist, pushes the music forward and incorporates different musical genres which translates into a robust style. Many have said, "He can play anything..." Dounia Gonzalez, rhythm guitar and vocalist, brings her rock and roll / musical theater vocal background and arabic percussion to this energetic duo. She pours her heart and soul into her music.
These musicians bring the upbeat & spicy music to southern California. Pasion Gitana plays rumba, rock, boleros, bossa novas and the music of the Gipsy Kings. Remember, its about bringing people together in love and community...
