Cisco Director of global go-to-market (GTM) for the Internet of Things (IoT)

An IOT architecture takes three types of connections--machine-to-machine (M2M), person-to-machine (P2M), and person-to-person (P2P)--and pulling all the interactions together into an integrated framework.  As a result, providing an organization with the visibility and orchestrational ability to reach it business goals. This talk focuses on how to design and deploy large scale IOT architectures. The backbone of a successful IOT solution is a resilient, secure, and manageable standards-based open communication fabric that allows intelligent linkages between the IOT elements while participating in the decision making undertaken by these elements. This presentation will describe the methodology that business can leverage to develop an IOT communications architecture. It will focus on how to map business requirements to use cases and how communications requirements derived from these use cases are leveraged to develop an IOT architecture.

Finally, references to additional resources will be provided, including leveraging an actual IOT deployment to showcase best practices and principles for effectively designing and deploying large scale IOT architectures; and trends in IOT, Lighting and Energy.

Irfan Ali is the Director of global go-to-market (GTM) for the Internet of Things (IoT) at Cisco. In this role, he leads the global sales strategy, business acceleration and operations to drive the next wave of connectivity that link objects, devices, and sensors over an intelligent network to generate efficiency gains, new business opportunities, and quality-of-life improvements. He previously served as Director of Systems Engineering for US Commercial West, creating effective technical GTM models and leading teams to aggressively capture market share and grow Cisco’s core technology, including Data Center Virtualization, Unified Collaboration, Unified Access and Security.

Born in Pakistan with Indian descent, educated in Italy and the United States, Irfan has lived in 3 continents and speaks 5 languages Italian, Hindi, Urdu, Spanish and English. He has an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from California State, Long Beach; he has been a Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert in Routing and Switching (#7080) for the past 12 years, and he holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Pepperdine University.
