Tonight's host is DJ SupaLee& Natplu
Leyland Lyken aka DJ SupaLeeis a deaf poet and hip hop DJ from Brooklyn, NY. He hosted SUPAFEST in 2010 at Gallaudet University, university for the education of the deaf and hard of hearing in Washington, DC, as a movement for deaf entertainment; poetry, DJ performance, among others. As SupaLee puts it, "You don't need to be deaf to attend a deaf event. If you're disabled in any way, don't allow yourself to become the victim. There are millions of people out there looking for people like you. So come on out and make yourself known."
A dancer, artist, poetic performer, and entertainment MC; the multi-talented and charismatic “NatPlu” has become widely recognized by many.
Nathalie Pluviose (Plantation, FL) was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. NatPlu became deaf at the age of three with meningitis which affected her hearing loss. As the only deaf person in her family her mother, Jilianne Theodore, a writer, singer, and a poet, was firmly committed to education and taught NatPlu to read and write in French and English. Her early education was oral and mainstreamed. She earned her A.A.S. in Foreign Language Teaching Ed in David, FL and a B.A. in American Sign Language at Gallaudet University. She is currently working at Gallaudet University for the Development Office as an American Sign Language tutor and a co-host for Busboy and Poet.
