Event Details

…though often hidden (beneath the skin of a building, or in our veins), iron is one of the basic necessities of life, so why not take a closer look…

What: This interdisciplinary workshop will touch on the origins of the element iron (and its near and dear offspring, steel), their chemical properties, as well as their ensuing ecological and cultural value. Hand in hand with the aforementioned research , we will learn some basic metal working techniques (grinding, cutting, drilling, MIG + Stick welding), and each individually produce a small steel sculpture by the end of the workshop. **There will also be an optional field trip outside of class time, as well as an oppotunity to participate in a Mixed Media Lab group show in March.
